About The Financial Planning Institute
The Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body for financial planners and advisers, and a SARS Recognised Controlling Body, was formed in 1981 as the Institute of Life and Pension Advisors (ILPA) to improve levels of professionalism. Today, we are regarded as the leading independent professional body for financial planners and financial advisers in South Africa. As an affiliate of the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), along with 25 other countries, we are the only institution in Southern Africa able to award the CFP® designation, the highest recognised professional designation worldwide for a financial planner. Our mission is to advance and promote the pre-eminence and status of financial planning professionals, while at all times acting in the interests of the society whom the profession serves.
