About The First Generation Mentor Program
The First Generation Mentor Program works to increase high school student graduation rates and college readiness throughout the Orange County area. This organization is open to any and all Chapman University students who are interested in mentoring a high school student aspiring to be the first person in their family to attend college. The Chapman University students who are chosen as mentors will guide their mentees in the college application process and help them to develop college readiness skills. Through weekly mentoring sessions, mentees develop professional skills such as interview preparedness, resume building, and leadership. Mentees also have the opportunity to receive academic help and learn effective study habits. Multiple workshops are given throughout the academic year in both group and one-on-one interactions. Mentors empower mentees to affirm confidence in their abilities, set long-term goals, create action plans to achieve them, and develop a positive outlook for their future.
