About The Flannel Project
The Flannel Project | Supporting Survivors of Veteran Suicide When we lost our dear friend Shan, a 29-year-old veteran, her tragic death became the spark for something bigger than grief. It became a mission. Our Reality Check: • Since 1997, over 1,600 Australian Defence Force members have died by suicide • Each suicide impacts an estimated 135 people directly • That's over 216,000 Australians affected by veteran suicide alone • Yet survivors - friends, family, colleagues, witnesses are often left without immediate support We exist to change that. Based in Brisbane, The Flannel Project is Australia's dedicated postvention charity for survivors of veteran suicide. We don't just talk about the problem — we act on it. How We Make a Difference: 🔹 SOS Flannel Card Program — Immediate, tailored support in the critical first four weeks after loss 🔹 Wear a Flan 4 Shan - Our annual community event honoring those we've lost while raising vital funds 🔹 Flannel Flower Memorial Garden - A healing space for reflection and remembrance 🔹 10 Before 10 Initiative - Monthly community fundraising that anyone can join Our Three Pillars: • Choice - Personalised essential services including GP visits and therapy • Connection - Linking survivors with counselling and group support • Communication - Facilitating dialogue between survivors and their support networks Veterans face some of Australia's highest suicide rates. But here's what we know: postvention IS prevention. When we support survivors properly, we break cycles of trauma and save lives. Because no one should grieve alone. Ready to join our mission?
