Having lived and loved dogs my whole life, it was in 2005 when I adopted my first own dog - a shelter dog, a tiny female chihuahua. Since then, I have adopted many dogs - all rescues and it was through this journey that I realized that I do NOT want to feed commercial kibble or toxic drugs to my dogs. It was clear to me that I do NOT want to adopt a Western 'dog-care' approach when it comes to my dogs! NOPE. There's got to be a better way to take care of them! I went back to my roots - India, and remembered how in India we keep dogs so healthy, simply by feeding them fresh homemade vegetarian food and that is it! In Indian dogs, especially, up until the last decade, cancer was never heard of! Whereas in America, and other Western countries, cancer is widespread among dogs, in Indian dogs (and also other Asian countries), cancer or other epidemics like obesity, allergies, skin issues, diabetes, kidney or liver diseases, etc. in dogs has been pretty nonexistant. So, I started cooking food for my dogs - 100% homemade vegan diet for them and the results showed! No more shedding, no more allergies, no more stiffness or painful joints, and definitely, none of my dogs have ever had cancer and I am pretty sure none ever will! This, launched my desire to teach this to other dog owners to help them save money AND keep their pooch healthy for long live together! In retrospect, I also thought that this would prevent more dogs from entering animal shelters - many lousy owners give their dogs up when hit with a vet bill, when in reality, it is all so easy! Now, through The Garden Pooch, I teach holistic lifestyle tips for your dog, simple plant-based recipes for dogs, Ayurvedic tips, cancer prevention in dogs, and herbal medicine for keeping (or healing) your dog from cancer and other conditions.
