About The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science
The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science is Kentucky’s first residential high school for students interested in pursuing advanced careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It empowers Kentucky’s exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to live and learn in an environment that offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for leadership roles. Students take coursework through Western Kentucky University with other University students, and live in the recently-expanded Florence Schneider Hall. The Gatton Academy accepts approximately 95 students each year, with half the class being male and half female. Students may take part in STEM research projects outside of the classroom led by university faculty, and they share their findings through presentations at local, state, and national conferences. In its 11th year, The Gatton Academy has received exceptional recognition, including being named to The Washington Post’s list of Top-Performing Schools with Elite Students for nine consecutive years.
