About The Girl Choir of South Florida

The Girl Choir of South Florida was founded on March 21, 2005, in response to the need for a choral music program sensitive to girls’ unique needs and abilities. Since that time, the Girl Choir has become a pillar of choral music education and performance for girls and young women ages 6-18 in South Florida. Led by Artistic Director and founding member Sylvia Aycock, GCSF’s artistic staff bring decades of award-winning professional educational experience in voice, theory, movement, and performance to the curriculum. A high-quality music education is at the foundation of the Girl Choir’s unique sound. Our multi-level program of ensembles gives each chorister sight-reading, ear training, and vocal production skills while developing artistry and teamwork. We provide a graded, multi-level music theory instruction program to our singers, aimed at developing general musicianship skills as well as choral performance skills. Comprised of multiple ensembles (Primes Choir, Mezzo Choir, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers), our program affords girls of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to participate and improve their technique. Each season, all choristers participate in major performance events in the fall and spring, as well as numerous private, community, and charitable events. Girl Choir ensembles have toured internationally, performed in choral music festivals, appeared on television, participated in productions by Florida Grand Opera, and performed at the White House.
