About The Gordon Parks Museum
The Gordon Parks Museum, since its establishment in 2004, has hosted speakers and artists from all over the United States and has featured programs throughout the year that have inspired and educated our students and community. The Museum serves as the organizing entity for educational and cultural programs and events that highlight the life, achievements and philosophies of Fort Scott’s native son Gordon Parks. The Museum is located in the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center and contains memorabilia from Parks’ apartment, many of his collections, and 30 photographs donated by Mr. Parks. Gordon Parks, who died in March of 2006 at the age of 93, will be remembered for his photography, his films, books, poetry, and music. His legacy is far reaching, and he will be remembered as an icon and a pioneer. REGULAR HOURS are Mon-Fri: 9:00 am-4:00 pm. Please call ahead for a visit or to schedule a tour.
