About The Historic Magnolia House
The Historic Magnolia House is a living museum and the NC Green Book hotel where African American's stayed during Jim Crow. Of the 320+ NC Green Book Sites, we are 1 of maybe 6 sites still in existence and functioning as it was during its Green Book Heyday. We are the home of Carter G. Woodson, Ray Charles, James Brown, James Baldwin, Jackie Robinson, Sam Cooke, Count Basie, Lena Horne, , Ike & Tina and many more artist, musicians, and speakers in the 50s and 60's. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and identified as a "Distinctive Destination" with the National Trust for Historic Places Starred in 6 editions of The Green Book as the highly recommended place to stay for Negro travelers in NC Inducted into the National Historic Hotel of America, being the 8th in the state of NC and only Green Book Site on the National Listing. Today the community can experience us as a100% Fully Restored 1949 Green Book Hotel.
