About The Institute for Behavioral Sciences and the Law
At the Institute for Behavioral Sciences and the Law, we understand that the interface between psychology and the law is not always an easy alliance. However, mental health issues and experts have become an integral part of the legal process. Across the country, issues such as competency, sanity, dangerousness, treatment needs, mitigation, domestic violence, child abuse, psychiatric commitment and placement, child custody, parental rights, and psychological damages arise on a daily basis. As a result, judges and attorneys who practice any area of law - criminal, family, or civil - are likely to have cases that are complicated by mental health-related issues. Given the frequency with which these issues arise in legal cases today, judges and attorneys frequently must seek out mental health experts to assist them in answering questions relevant to legal issues. The Institute for Behavioral Sciences and the Law was established to offer such specialized services to the legal community. The staff at IBSL is well-versed and well-trained in the multitude of ways in which mental health issues can impact a legal case. Known for our integrity, experience, and forensic knowledge, we can competently address almost any legal issue that arises and confidently present testimony in plain, understandable language. We also offer psycho-legal training to any size group, from small law firms or group practices to large groups of lawyers, judges, and psychologists throughout the country We welcome you to our website and encourage you to explore it to learn more about the services we offer, our highly skilled doctors, and our specialized forensic products.
