About The International Meat Trade Association
IMTA is a UK trade association, representing predominantly UK companies importing and exporting meat. Our goal is the facilitation of the trade in meat ensuring UK consumer choice, food security and carcass balance through import and export. IMTA provides leading trade expertise on UK trade policy including on customs, tariffs, quotas, rules of origin, WTO, trade agreements, SPS conditions and market access. The International Meat Trade Association represents more than 65 importers, exporters and wholesalers as well as 25 associate members from relevant sectors including shipping, freight forwarding, ports, levy boards and cold storage. IMTA has expertise in international trade and so is well-placed to assist companies in understanding the potential Brexit impacts in relation to trade including tariffs, quotas, veterinary aspects, customs. IMTA engages across UK government to represent its members and provide members with the latest information on policy and legislative changes. IMTA represents the membership at meetings with the European Commission and is an active member of UECBV (European Livestock and Meat Trading Union). IMTA has regular meetings with DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), The RPA (Rural Payments Agency) and The FSA (Food Standards Agency) as well as holding forums, seminars and visits for members.
