About The Isle of Wight Cookery School
I am one of many who has turned a passion for cooking into a business. However, this took longer, threw up more challenges than I thought it would and proved to be a lot more fun in the process! From my original concept of ready-made meals, so many produce markets and events locally, my business transformed by the end of the first year. Having a marketing strategy, I took advantage of starting the business, the markets, and the local producers in several ways. First, there was local radio, then a food festival, but the biggest shift was changing the focus of the business into a catering company. Several new opportunities for my business and myself provided additional revenue streams that became key to each year of operation. So much diverse and fun activity in ten years of operating then came COVID. March 2020 proved to be a key moment for me. No more client work, festivals, or any other events for the last year or so have offered potential revenue. How to diversify in the current circumstances and foreseeable environment that will limit the ability to cook for and deliver catering directly to clients. What next? I am not sure if I am an example of how creative and flexible the hospitality sector can be, but I believe all small businesses can be responsive and adapt to new circumstances. The pandemic is perhaps the biggest of all circumstances! Now building an online cookery school and catering business for the Isle of Wight. Additionally, I am a member of the committee of the Guild of Food Writers.
