About The JHTC Children's Home - "בית הילדים "הרי ירושלים
Founded in 1943, The Jerusalem Hills is a unique institution, providing therapeutic treatment and special education to approximately 100 at-risk boys and girls, aged 6-15. The children come from all sectors of Israeli society and religions, but they have one thing in common: each of them is a victim of emotional or physical abuse; neglect, or abandonment. The children at the JHTC are physically sound but bear psychological scars that distort their behavior and make normative human interaction virtually impossible. Unfortunately, we can predict that without long-term comprehensive therapeutic treatment, these children would endure lives in psychiatric facilities, and in the criminal justice system. Often, Jerusalem Hills represents a last chance for these children before the need for hospitalization or incarceration, providing a pathway back into society. The JHTC is comprised of two main facilities: - The Chezzi Cohen Children’s Home Campus is a residential treatment center on the outskirts of Jerusalem that provides a warm and loving environment, including a Ministry of Education-approved special education school, and a dynamic, long-term psychological treatment center. The treatment for each child is tailored according to their individual needs and restrictions. - The Therapeutic and Training Center, located in Jerusalem, addresses the needs of the wider community by offering the same high-quality therapeutic and professional services to the wider population. The JHTC provides training programs to psychologists, social workers, therapists, and special education teachers based on the dynamic treatment methods and extensive experience gained at the children's home since its establishment 80 years ago. Over the years, approximately 70% of the JHTC graduates have gone on to lead productive lives in the greater community thanks to their period of care at the institution.
