About The JobUp

The USA stands in people's imagination, the world over, as a land of opportunity. But while we know the story of waves of American immigrants who eventually built abundant lives, we rarely hear that 25% (1 in 4) of work-authorized newcomers with a foreign education don't make it in the States. They are cut off from good jobs and careers. Internationally educated immigrant women have it worse, as 1 in 3 is passed over. The problem cuts both ways. It affects the livelihood of many immigrant families and the wealth of both our local and national economy, which miss out on essential skills. At The JobUp we understand that. Our program, launched at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, teaches foreign-educated, work-authorized immigrants how to find their footing in the USA and thrive. About the Program: The JobUp is a work-readiness accelerator that teaches internationally educated, work-authorized immigrants how to unlock the American hiring process. Course Description: A series of immersive and interactive online classes. Lessons are taught in American English to increase linguistic confidence, boost communication skills, and expand relevant job-seeking vocabulary. Participants come away with a clear and actionable understanding of how to succeed in their job search. They acquire the tools and develop the mindset necessary to focus on their goals and proactively pursue them. Students are encouraged to build community in a safe and supportive learning environment. Our Mission: Take the guesswork out of job-seeking by equipping participants with the knowledge and the mentoring they need to navigate the labor market and succeed as new Americans.
