About The Justice League

The Justice League is a lean outfit founded by Clive Stafford Smith, a human rights lawyer who has spent decades fighting for justice, from death row in the U.S. to Guantanamo Bay. We are a diverse team of apprentices and advocates, working on both sides of the Atlantic to support individuals targeted by the state for imprisonment or execution. Our focus spans legal defence, human rights advocacy and public education. What sets us apart is our commitment to mentoring the next generation. We work on both sides of the Atlantic, engaging in active cases and projects that give young people—especially those from backgrounds underrepresented in the legal profession—hands-on experience in factual investigation, legal research, writing, and advocacy. At the heart of The Justice League is a desire to help young people discover what educationalist Sir Ken Robinson called their “element”—the place where passion meets talent. Through hands-on experience, we aim to help apprentices explore whether a future in human rights is their true calling, just as it has been for Clive. The Justice League is proudly structured as a community interest company: no profit motive, just a clear social purpose.
