About The Lioness Tale Prison Project
The Lioness Tale Prison Project helps incarcerated women find internal freedom—and profoundly change their lives. For more than a decade, The Lioness Tale Prison Project has worked with women serving long-term and life sentences at the Central California Women’s Facility, one of the largest women’s prisons in the world. The program combines elements of narrative therapy, somatic mindfulness, community building, and trauma-responsive practices to foster self-awareness, emotional literacy, and internal freedom. This enables women to find a sense of hope and purpose, cultivate empathy for themselves and others, and create a new life narrative, even while incarcerated. Using a peer leadership model, these women then facilitate the sharing of these resources throughout their prison community. The Lioness Tale Prison Project centers around the book The Lioness Tale, written by our founder Diane Pendola, and is operated by Skyline Harvest, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in California.
