About The London Early Opera Company
London Early Opera (LEO) is a vibrant, baroque group of instrumentalists, singers, researchers, historians and musicologists on a voyage of rediscovery making glorious baroque music and opera relevant today. As Artistic Director of London Early Opera, Bridget Cunningham creates outstanding recordings with Signum Records exploring Handel’s life, influences and experiences which inspired his magnificent musical legacy. These albums include Handel in Italy, Volumes 1 and 2, Handel in Ireland Volume 1, Handel at Vauxhall Volumes 1 and 2, Handel’s Eight Great Harpsichord Suites and Handel’s Queens which have been released to international acclaim on the shortlist for a 2020 Gramophone Award nomination: “Handel has never sounded better” 5 Stars ★★★★★ BBC Music Magazine “Superb album - I never thought I could listen to more than 2 hours of such stuff at a stretch without a break, but that’s what I have done”- Handel’s Queens album, David Mellor, Classic FM, 2019. Set up in 2008, LEO research and create important new scores and parts of newly discovered historic manuscripts and make world premiere recordings, concerts, workshops, coaching sessions and educational programmes to preserve musical heritage. LEO’s successful emerging artists educational scheme, The Handelians supports the education and development of talented young musicians. LEO have made many broadcasts on BBC Radio and TV, many videos on LEO’s YouTube channel and several European tours and performed at Coram’s Fields, the Foundling Museum, London Handel Festival, St James’s Piccadilly, Handel Hendrix Museum, 400th anniversary concert of Monteverdi Vespers at Southwark Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church Vauxhall, Trafalgar Day concert with the Band of the Queen’s Division, the National Gallery and a new world premiere for BBC Radio 4 live on the River Thames for the 300th anniversary of Handel’s Water Music.
