About The Ludlow Brewing Company
Ludlow has a long tradition and history of brewing, but the last brewery in town, the Ludlow and Craven Arms Brewery, shut up shop in the 1930s, that is until now... It was the dream of Gary and Alison Walters to rekindle this industry in Ludlow and in May 2006 Ludlow Brewing Company's first mash was started, the rest as they say is history... September 2006 saw the brewery gain its first awards. Our first ale "Ludlow Gold" won the CAMRA Severn Valley Railway beer festival along with the annual beer festival held at the Sun Inn Leintwardine. Gold was soon followed by The Boiling Well, Best and a Black Knight. Further awards have been picked up including the distinction of becoming CAMRA's Shropshire Beer of the year in 2008/2009. Stairway to Paradise, was first brewed in September 2010 with silver in the SIBA for strong bitters 2011. Our newest pale ale Blonde was brewed at the end of 2014. Having successfully established the Brewery in the old malting building in Corve Street, it became apparent during 2008 that capacity and space were becoming issues. An abandoned railway shed on the same site as the current building looked like too good an opportunity to ignore! So a planning application was lodged in March 2009 and work on creating the new brewery began during the summer of that year. Brewing started at the new brewery in December 2010 on our new 20 barrel brewing system. The new building accomodates a Brewery Tap and Visitor Centre, which was opened to the public in April 2011 and makes a great venue for all sorts of occasions. The project has been supported with financial assistance from The Rural Development Programme for England and the EU and a Shropshire Tourism Business Grant (funded by Shropshire Council).
