About The Marie Equi Center

The Marie Equi Center is a community health and wellness organization dedicated to advancing the health, dignity, and survival of trans, queer, intersex, and gender diverse people, with a focus on low-income and houseless LGBTQ+ individuals who are most impacted by systemic inequities. Our Mission We work to enrich the health and well-being of our communities by providing trauma-informed care, culturally-affirming services, and social justice advocacy. We believe healthcare is a human right, and that healing must be accessible, safe, and grounded in lived experience. What We Do Direct Care & Services We provide gender-affirming, trauma-informed support including behavioral health services, addiction recovery resources, peer navigation, wellness programs, and connections to housing and social supports. Addiction Recovery & Public Health Equity As a grantee of the Oregon Health Authority’s Behavioral Health Resource Network (BHRN) and Public Health Equity programs, we expand access to addiction recovery services and address the structural health disparities that disproportionately affect LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Houseless Services Through partnership with Multnomah County’s Homeless Services Department, we serve houseless LGBTQ+ individuals with care, stability, and pathways toward sustainable well-being. Advocacy & Community Building We work to dismantle barriers in healthcare and housing, offering not only direct services but also community spaces for resilience, empowerment, and healing. Our Namesake We are named for Dr. Marie Equi (1872–1952), an openly lesbian physician, suffragist, and radical activist who devoted her life to caring for the poor and fighting for justice. Her legacy of compassion and courage guides our vision for equity and liberation today.
