About The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation
Following the tragic death of Matt Ratana, the inspiring grassroots rugby coach and highly regarded police officer, we established The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation. The Foundation will champion Matt’s values of using the medium of rugby to create transformational change in young people. We will deliver and design development initiatives across grassroots rugby clubs and schools, targeting vulnerable people to bring about sustainable change. We are raising funds to support coaches and players through a variety of locally run training programmes and improved facilities. Matt believed that rugby wasn’t just about the playing of sport, it was about bringing people together from across the community and in that endeavour creating an environment in which young people can thrive and grow as individuals and as part of a team. Community is more important now more than ever.
