Recognized as the gold standard in leadership certification, the National Board believes higher standards for leaders means a better world for all. Established in 2015, the National Board for Leadership Standards is an independent, organization working to advance accomplished leadership standards for all. The founding mission of the National Board is to advance the quality of leadership and learning by: Maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished leaders should know and be able to do; Providing a national voluntary system certifying leaders who meet these standards; Advocating related education reform to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board-Certified. Built from Leadership Expertise. The National Board was established as the profession’s vehicle for defining and recognizing accomplished leadership. National Board Standards are created by leaders, for leaders, as is National Board Certification, a voluntary process to certify leaders against those standards.
