About The Natural History Museum
As a traveling and pop-up “museum for the movement,” The Natural History Museum (NHM) reimagines the museum’s role amid the environmental emergency. Through socially-engaged art and touring exhibitions, we examine the spatial politics of extraction, while supporting the work of communities on the frontlines of environmental injustice. We collaborate with community groups, artists, scientists, and scholars on projects that engage the public with efforts to protect water, land, and our collective future. As a long-term intervention on the museum form by the art collective Not An Alternative, NHM embraces institutionality as a means of building counter-power, modeling a path from “institutional critique” to “institutional liberation”.
