About The New Village School

The New Village School is an avant-garde Bay Area independent school in Sausalito that is redefining education for children from preschool through 8th grade. Welcome to our community of families and teachers, dedicated to fostering a nurturing learning environment that enables our students to become intellectually curious, resilient, and joy-filled lifelong learners. In its seventeenth year of operation, the New Village School provides experiential education from preschool through 8th grade. At the New Village School, we embrace the idea of a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on our observations of children today. We facilitate this learning through experiences inside and outside the classroom and by providing a nature-based, artistic education in which children have time to explore and engage in the world with all their senses. We prioritize small class sizes, meaningful academics, screen-free learning through 6th grade, social and emotional intelligence, outdoor learning, which takes place on the school’s Land and in the natural beauty of Marin County and environs, as well as global travel. Our graduates have time to reflect on their experiences and develop a strong sense of self and community based on geographical, historical, and cultural orientation. They are well prepared for high school – and for their future. We are committed to embracing families and their children by instilling a culture of inclusiveness within our classrooms and of friendship among students across the grades. As a small school, teachers dedicate 1:1 time with each child, learning how best to develop their unique capabilities through understanding their individual learning styles. As a community of learners – children and adults – who strive to discover more about themselves, we communicate directly, create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all, and hold monthly parent evenings to discuss childhood development, parental challenges, or specific class trips.
