Within the world of theatre, we are needing to adapt to this new normal. Not only do we want to create a space that is accessible for emerging artists, but that has also adapted to this new way of working. Focusing on what new opportunity Covid-19 has given us, rather than what it has taken away. We have to relearn what theatre is in order for it to survive. The Pen Theatre is a post covid theatre that is tailor-made to exist and thrive in a post covid world that ensures the security of artists and the work they create and the safety of the spectator. We aim to create an affordable space for new practitioners to develop their productions in the professional environment it deserves and demands. Having both formed our own theatre companies and produced many shows, we are no stranger to the hard graft required to make thought provoking original work. The logistics of this is rehearsing in cold parks, noisy pubs and even school corridors. This is a reality that is only too familiar for so many upcoming practitioners. We believe that new artists should have access to a professional environment that will allow them to develop their work to its full potential. With time, equipment, help, and advice available that will allow their work to thrive. On top of this, we want to give them a full run of their performance, so they can gain a completely professional experience of performing their work and set them up for the next stage of their career.
