As the target of bullying for many years, I know how deeply it scares the soul. The isolation and despair make you feel and think that you have no where to turn, and that there is no way out. The more the road narrows, the more vulnerable and alone you feel. You lose hope. And without protection and support, there is nothing to shield your soul from what is now the #1 form of child abuse in America and in many other nations. I’m Paul Coughlin, Founder of The Protectors. For more than a decade, our team has been fighting back against bullying by teaching effective, evidence-based methods throughout public schools, private religious schools, summer camps—wherever youth gathers. What we have witnessed is remarkable. Time and again, we see the lives of children and their families transformed through the rescuing power of our unique and effective program. We’ve learned a lot from more than 10 years of battling this misunderstood form of intentional abuse. It’s not a school problem—it’s a cultural problem that requires a community to fix. It’s a challenge, but we’re doing it. Kids want to stand up to bullying—but they need help learning how. They need specific preparation as well as parental expectation to do the right thing even when difficult, which is a great definition of courage. We help them find and grow their courage. And finally, parents and related guardians, not teachers, are the front line defense against bullying. Without this vital component, no freedom-from-bullying effort will be effective. Our mission is to protect the dignity, worth and value of all children by providing solutions to those who desperately need hope and guidance. Our goal with our page is to build a global army ends bullying in our lifetime.
