The Proxy Project is a powerful new Get Out The Vote strategy that pairs high school activists who are too young to cast a ballot with Millennials or previously “sporadic” voters who will promise to be their proxies and show up at the polls this November. We’re banking on the power of simple one-to-one connections. One voting partnership. One commitment. One vote.The message is simple: I can’t vote, but you can. Do it for me, because the issues I care about can't wait. Our model relies on cutting-edge research that shows people are more likely to cast a ballot if someone they know is counting on them. And especially if that someone can’t vote -- because they’re too young, or they’re a Dreamer, or they’re otherwise ineligible. Our website and social media pages will serve as virtual gathering places where “Activators” and “Proxies” will register their partnerships and then return to validate their pledges when the votes have been cast. This midterms, let’s not just hope that turnout among Millennials will be better than in the past, let’s empower 14 to 17-year-olds to reel in the votes one at a time until their influence -- and their futures -- can’t be ignored.
