The Quiet Workplace™ is changing the conversation about the role of silence in a talkative, noisy world. Concentration is critical and more valuable than collaboration. Thinking precedes talking and doing. Whether it is at the office, at home, or on the road, we need quiet wherever we go. The Quiet Workplac challenges conventional behaviors and beliefs. There are many false assumptions that people not only believe but also promote. For example, collaboration is always useful, everything is an emergency, technology is always beneficial, and it is expected and accepted that our attention can be interrupted and mistreated. We propose a simple set of principles and practices, offer QuietWorks™ programs to teach people the simplicity and value of silence, offer products as reminders to make quiet part of everyday living, and encourage the reimagining of places to be much more conducive to quiet concentration.
