About The Radiant Spectrum
The Radiant Spectrum is the first and only music education centre in Singapore to provide music and piano lessons specifically for children with special needs. Our first centre opened at International Plaza in April 2021 and have since expanded to two units. Our teachers are all trained and coached to support all types of learning needs and disabilities, such as, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), intellectual disability (ID), selective mutism, speech delay, tics, and more. Attention is paid to learning songs that the child enjoys. Our students are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment with each performance. The Radiant Spectrum avoids a rigid focus on technique and drills but will implement if the child is ready to progress further in his or her musical journey. Our approach for children with special needs are detailed as follows: 1. All teachers are trained to work with children with special needs and focus on building a strong therapist-child relationship so that the child will be a happy and willing learner. 2. The teachers also spend time to understand the child’s strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes. Armed with these information, they then set goals for areas that require improvement and design a customised curriculum for each student. 3. The music curriculum is then deconstructed into smaller units which are then introduced to students in a gradual manner. 4. Each student is provided with an individualised learning programme, supplemented with songs and worksheets that support his/her interests and consider his/her learning needs. 5. As a student progresses, increasingly difficult challenges are introduced, from finger exercises to note reading, two-hand playing, and duet performances. Teachers are at the ready should a student require to fall back on easier tasks.
