Reach for Me is an internet-based membership network serving parents/primary caregivers & families of underage and adult special-needs children, regardless of diagnosis; cognitive or physical. Based upon his own lived experience as the single father of an adult special-needs child, the network provides much-needed support, connection, caregiver-oriented advocacy, and a step-by-step program for parents/families to improve their quality of life as caregivers. His fourth book Reach for Me, The Story of My Son Connor is an amazing story. Parents of special-needs children often experience an endless chain of challenges gnawing at their very fabric as people. The stress, worry, and anxiety can at times overwhelm any caregiver regardless of their socio-economic background or diagnosis of their child or children. Offering caregivers a place they can come to share challenges, experiences, stories, information, special moments, vent and be listened to, find community, friendship, and emotional support is what Reach For Me is about. RFMs questions are these: Who’s caring for the caregivers? What happens if they can no longer handle the stress? What happens if they turn to alcohol, drugs, or worse yet, decide to check out or shut down because the continued stress is too much for them? And how does this impact their employers? How are they to manage this on-going situation inside their own companies? And who pays in this scenario if the caregivers are not supported? Answer? All of us will in the form of more government taxes and involvement in our lives.
