About The Recycle For Africa Group (Pty)

Our company R4A Waste Management, offers a solution to clients, of ZERO to LANDFILL, by recycling all waste collected. The waste which is left from classification, and is contaminated, is converted into ECO BLOCKS, used in a variety of uses in the building industry. This story began back in 2009, when Far Horizon Lodge opened. The waste generated by the lodge was the least of our worries. Unbeknown to us, the local municipal services, were not collecting waste, so our staff just “stored the waste at the unused chicken coop, six month later I took a walk and to my surprise , we had 49 tonnes of unsorted waste. Realising it was not justifiable to send it to landfill, I began in our kitchen, blending all the non recyclables, such as plastic, cardboard, paper, polystyrene etc, and making a mache type of product. Adding various resins', and other components, to the mix In 2011, we found something that resembled a bloc. It failed it’s first mpa test by a large margin. we kept working on it and 2 years later we found a solution, but with one ingredient short, as the bloc would still not hold up to a mpa rating. Miraculously a gentlemen in India read our story on the internet and mailed us the solution. The enveloped contained a handwritten note in a foreign language and a white powder that looked like cocaine. After consulting a friend of mine, who translated the contents of the letter, we added the “cocaine type substance to our recipe”, and we cast a block. The wait was agonising and at 4.30 we poured out the mould, of our very first ENVIROBLOC. Looking at the integrity of the block we could see the structure was strong. I climbed onto the roof of the chicken coop, and dropped the block onto the concrete platform below. Low and behold the ENVIROBLOC BOUNCED. We had achieved the NET ZERO TECHNOLOGY WE HAD BEEN STRIVING FOR, AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS!
