About The Red Umbrella

Description of Company: The Red Umbrella (TRU) was founded in 2010 as a non profit dedicated to empowering women who had lost a spouse through divorce, death, separation, as well as single mothers of children under 18. We worked in local communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area teaching empowerment classes in the areas of emotional well-being, financial literacy, overview of legal issues, career and job skills, and basic home and car repair and maintenance. Today, we have expanded our mission and programs to work with women and girls in global communities, with a particular focus in the Middle East and Africa. Our philosophy is based on an innovative approach we call “Think Forward.” We teach our clients to see beyond the limitations set by their current circumstances and develop a growth mindset in order to move into a position of independence and self-sufficiency. The Red Umbrella programs use both formal and informal education, life skills training and the integration of positive and critical thinking in every curriculum. Our goal is for women and girls to become an integral part of co-creating their societies and have increased social impact in their communities as a whole. Mission: To empower at risk women and girls globally by providing them with education, life skills and the tools to positively impact their communities so they can live sustainable and independent lives. Vision: The Red Umbrella envisions a world where every woman and girl holds the power to create opportunity for positive change in her life.
