About The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem
The Salvation Army has served the Greater Winston-Salem area since 1907. We provide the only family emergency homeless shelter in Forsyth County, giving single parents and families with children the tools they need to rebuild their lives. We operate food pantries in downtown Winston-Salem and downtown Kernersville. Our social services department serves families and individuals with rent, utility, and other emergency assistance, preventing homelessness. We operate a Boys & Girls Club that focuses on educational and character building programs, fostering social equity and offering workforce development programs to prepare members for life after high school. We operate a Senior Center that keeps members active and engaged with a variety of programs that include physical activities, educational presentations, health and safety workshops, excursions to shop and sightsee, and more. The Christmas Angel Tree program each year ensures that thousands of children will have toys under the tree on Christmas morning. Our mission statement is to "meet human need without discrimination" and we provide an environment of diversity and inclusion with all our programs.
