About The SEED Foundation
The SEED Foundation is a national nonprofit that partners with urban communities to provide innovative educational opportunities that prepare underserved students for success in college and beyond. We establish college-prep, public boarding schools and offer SEED graduates postsecondary support through the SEED College Transition & Success Program. In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED School of Washington, D.C. – the nation’s first urban public boarding school. It serves 340 students in grades 6 - 12. To date, 93 percent of all SEED graduates have enrolled in college. Building on that success, The SEED School of Maryland opened in Baltimore in 2008. Approximately 400 students live and learn on the 52-acre SEED Maryland campus; the school graduated its first class of seniors in 2015, and 100% of graduates were accepted to four-year colleges. In August 2014, The SEED School of Miami opened its doors to its first class of 60 sixth-graders, and will add a grade each year until it has 400 students enrolled in grades six through twelve. SEED has also been recognized in the national media for our model and our results. Our success has been celebrated by 60 Minutes, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the documentary film Waiting for "Superman," the Today Show, the New York Times, Time Magazine, Fox News, and CNN, among others.
