About The Shark Trust
Sharks are one of the most fascinating, iconic and environmentally important animal groups on the planet. They have survived virtually unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. Now the future of many species of shark are under serious threat. The Shark Trust is dedicated to ensuring a positive future for sharks. The Shark Trust is the leading UK-based charity that works globally to safeguard the future of sharks and rays through positive change. From an office in Plymouth, the Trust engages with a global network of scientists, policymakers, conservation professionals, businesses and supporters to improve the conservation status of sharks and rays. The Shark Trust has a 20-year track record of successful coordination and delivery of science based shark conservation. We've demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively and act as a trusted partner and contributor to key wildlife protection and management initiatives, identifying effective solutions and driving pragmatic change. Our work revolves around three key themes: Policy – advocating for change in policy and management Stakeholder engagement – promoting change in industry and business practices Public Engagement and Citizen Science – driving change in public attitudes and actions We work closely with the UK government and the EU commission on shark and ray management and fisheries issues. In 2016, we were one of six global NGO’s behind a new 10-year global strategy for sharks and rays. This strategy is now galvanising international efforts around key priorities and is enabling us to assume a leadership role in global shark conservation. If you are interested in what we are doing and want to be a part of our success, see our intro document. https://www.slideshare.net/secret/lCZYxR2uBTB8oP We can make the difference for the future of sharks and rays. Time is of the essence. More resources and greater financial backing means we can act quicker and prevent unnecessary extinctions.
