With over three decades of experience as a clinician, researcher, and professor, Gayatri recognized the urgent need for change. She sought a new path, one that would infuse her every day with purpose and vitality. Our story began as a response to a daunting reality: in India, 300-350 million workers earn meager incomes between $3-$5 dollars per day, while 65 million individuals struggle in poverty due to medical catastrophes. In a country where the healthcare landscape leaves too many in the ‘unsweet’ spot—neither eligible for government support nor able to afford upfront medical expenses—families are left with unimaginable choices. The Soondra Foundation steps into this void, serving as a safety net for those who would otherwise be trapped in a cycle of despair. Our immediate medical care grants become a lifeline, preventing not only health crises but also intergenerational poverty. Our mission continues with our sights set on a grander vision—to reach thousands, to mend broken health systems, and to create a legacy of empowerment.
