About The Sustainability Institute

The Sustainability Institute, founded in 1999, has a vision of a South Africa in which all individuals, regardless of their background, thrive in harmony with each other and the environment, fostering a culture of creativity, resilience and social equity. We inspire children, youth and adults to imagine and create a positive future for themselves, for others and society overall. We do this through hands-on learning and unique experiences in a place-based learning environment that activates imagination to drive social innovation through understanding how nature impacts our lives. For the children and youth in Lynedoch Valley, we offer transformative educational programmes that nurture their potential and guide them on their journey to becoming confident, fulfilled adults who make a positive difference in their community. We also create impactful learning and residency experiences in regenerative practices for adults, encouraging them to explore and practice fairer and more balanced ways of being. The resulting network of leaders and innovators become equipped to drive social change and contribute to more just and regenerative futures. As we activate collective imagination we continue to inspire and equip others to embrace creative and imaginative thinking for social innovation, by sharing and showcasing our knowledge and work. In 2024, we were recognised as the Most Transformative Learning & Social Innovation Organisation, South Africa by Corporate Vision Magazine.
