About The Tia Foundation

Using a “teach them to fish” model designed with a data-driven continuous process improvement paradigm, The Tia Foundation trains and equips community health workers, elected by their fellow villagers, in remote parts of rural Mexico, where there are no doctors. We accomplish this permanent, self-sustaining solution for $5 a person, because the local governments take over continuing education and resupply of the robust medical kits each health worker is given. Tia currently serves more than 438,000 via our health workers who provide vaccinations, deliver babies, manage chronic diseases like diabetes, and offer preventative education. Each community is left with an organizational structure and the tools to improve other areas of need, such as economic development, water quality, access to education and more. An unintended outcome of programs like Tia’s has been a drop in immigration by as much as 400% to the U.S. and a recently discovered drop in domestic violence.
