About The Tree of Life
On October 27, 2018, 11 Jews from three congregations were murdered while worshiping in the deadliest antisemitic attack in the United States. In the days that followed, the Pittsburgh community and the world came together to loudly oppose antisemitism and hate. As they began to pick up the pieces and rebuild, Tree of Life Congregation members and community leaders sought to build on the collective communal response to 10/27 and transform the site into one of light, hope and possibility. In 2022, they launched the Tree of Life, a national institution dedicated to uprooting antisemitism and identity-based hate through remembrance, education, celebration, and connection. Housed in a building designed by renowned architect and child of Holocaust survivors, Daniel Libeskind, the Tree of Life is a locally grounded institution with broad national reach. We are a place that celebrates Jewish life and tradition, and honors our shared humanity. We remember each victim and the collective communal response in the wake of the horror that happened here. Tree of Life is a place that educates people of all ages and backgrounds, builds connection, and inspires courageous action to create compassionate communities.
