About The Two Frontiers Project
At The Two Frontiers Project (2FP), we build tools to leverage and scale the natural capabilities of environmental microbial consortia to solve human and environmental health problems: from removing forever chemicals to building resilient coral reefs. Through expeditions to some of Earth’s most geochemically unique ecosystems – from deep-sea hydrothermal vents to hypersaline pools – we are building a living, open-source database of sequenced and cryopreserved microbial samples. With our high-throughput platform for precision culturomics, DNA sequencing, and AI-driven bioinformatic analysis, we can scale microbial machinery to macro-scale impact. We focus on “public goods” problems: those that are too early-stage for industry, too applied for academia, and critical for advancing biotechnological discovery. We de-risk and lower the cost of moonshot tech (think antibiotic discovery to biodiesel to bioremediation) with the intention of, eventually, spinning out organizations that can take specific products to market. We’re not just cataloging life – we’re building the knowledge and tools to sustain it, from Earth’s most extreme environments to microbial worlds we have yet to discover. Dive in with us.
