With two data centres under its portfolio and a third planned this year, UK Grid is now one of the leading Colocation providers in the North of England. The third Data Centre is currently in planning for Q1 2010 which will see UK Grid owning over 19,000 sq ft of technical floor space and in the region of 750 racks with a 10 GigE national network. The new facility will have tier 2 and tier 3 technical space which is a first for Manchester and the North of England. UK Grid is committed to reducing the impact it has on the environment and Synergy House was the first Data Centre in the North to employ Cold Aisle Containment. UK Grid has deployed Chloride efficient UPS systems with near unity power factor coupled with a carbon offset program to move towards carbon neutrality and therefore a portfolio of carbon balanced data centres. The Cold Aisle Containment and UPS selection have greatly attributed to UK Grid achieving a PUE of between 1.3 and 1.4 in Synergy House.
