About The University of Memphis—Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law
The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, located in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, was founded in 1962, and provides you with an excellent home and foundation for your legal education. We are dedicated to student-focused, experiential learning and are truly engaged with the community, in order to provide you with the best chance for a successful future. Memphis Law has been named as having the Best Law School Building and Facilities in the nation (FIVE TIMES!) by preLaw Magazine. This not only has to do with the fact that we’re housed in an awe-inspiring historic building perched high atop a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, but also our law school’s prime location in a downtown community that has been called one of the Top 15 Emerging Downtowns in the country by Forbes Magazine. This location creates opportunities for externships and clerkships for Memphis Law students that NO OTHER law school in the state or region can offer. It also means our students are within walking distance of state and federal courts, government agencies, and downtown law firms. We’ve also always been known for being a great bargain and value for your legal education. Our students have less to worry about when it comes to cost and debt. Combine that with Memphis having a cost of living much lower than the national average, with all the perks and advantages of living in a big city, and you can see why it quickly becomes the perfect combination of value and affordability. Our Experiential Learning program’s ability to give our students hands-on experience via our innovative legal clinics and wide array of externship placements is also a key component to our students' success. This program helps our students do more than just learn the law. It provides a blend of advocacy, real-world training, and intensive learning. Memphis Law is accredited by the American Bar Association and a member of the Association of American Law Schools.
