About The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences
The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences is dedicated to improving health in the communities and region we serve. We do this by educating excellent clinicians and scientists, by providing patient centered and high-quality care and by producing nationally recognized research in focused area. The College of Medicine offers a world-class education with medical degrees, dual degree programs, graduate degrees and graduate certificates. Founded in 1964, the College has blossomed into an academic health sciences center. One of fourteen state universities in Ohio, The University of Toledo was established in 1872 and became a member of the state university system in 1967. UT and the Medical University of Ohio merged July 2006 to form an institution with a breadth of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs matched by fewer than twenty universities across the nation and with the third-largest public university operating budget in the state. In 2015, the UT Board of Trustees approved an academic affiliation between the College of Medicine and ProMedica, a locally-owned, nonprofit health system providing quality health care services to 27 counties in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This affiliation will put our College of Medicine on a path to long-term strength and expanded educational opportunities for our learners. The College is located in Toledo, Ohio, a medium-sized city 100 miles west of Cleveland and 50 miles south of Detroit. Toledo is situated on the banks of the Maumee River and on the shores of Lake Erie in Northwest Ohio. A friendly and enterprising community, Toledo has outstanding metroparks, a world-class zoo, semi-professional hockey and baseball teams, and endless cultural opportunities.
