Illuminated Manuscripts have, throughout the ages, been held as treasures comparable to the finest works of art. Those that survive are proudly kept in libraries, museums, and private collections. The most splendid among them were collaborative enterprises involving exceptional artists who found their skills continually challenged by the array of crafts and media required to produce them: parchment, ink and pigment-making, bookbinding, calligraphy, gilding, drawing, and the use of precious stones. With the advent of the Gutenberg press, however, the art of making these astonishing Manuscripts disappeared. We have assembled a world-class team of artists and scholars to bring this unique process back to life by employing the original materials and techniques of ancient times to reproduce Medieval manuscript facsimiles on real lambskin vellum. 1.
