Reverend Owen H. and Zella Whitfield were concerned about the welfare and treatment of all sharecroppers, the labor conditions, and the social environment in which they lived. Today, there are signs in every community that we, like Reverend Whitfield, more than ever, must continue the faith and work to reach out to the less fortunate with arms of love and compassion to all. So we’re going to look back at Cropperville, a remarkable sharecropper community where they lived and survived through hardships. It’s a remembrance of what we call ‘The Cropperville Story.’ Our Mission To bring awareness and recognition to the plight of the many sharecroppers, men, women, and children, both black and white, who risked all that they had in order to make better living and working conditions for those in need; and to provide higher educational opportunities through scholarships and grants. We are committed to educating the youth to be responsible builders and participants in this great country. We offer these services to the former descendants of the Cropperville sharecropper’s community as well as low-income families and at-risk youth in Missouri. Our Philosophy We believe every individual born deserves the opportunity to learn the skills needed to become a productive member of their community. Our families’ rich heritage and memories of good values, unity, hardworking rural life, black and white in unity, living off the land and learning how to survive with nothing but hope and a little know-how. This know-how is what we hope to pass on to our next generation, the children, grandchildren, and hopefully our troubled generation today.
