About The Women's Bakery
The Women's Bakery (TWB) is an international social enterprise that empowers women and builds bakeries in East Africa. We offer empowerment opportunities to women through gainful employment and programming (for example, accredited vocational training, financial literacy training, and daycares at each bakery), and we create access to nutrition through our fortified, affordable bread. The vision is to build, essentially, the Panera of East Africa, or East Africa's #1 bakery powered by women, serving quality bread to the masses. Our operational headquarters is in Rwanda and our specialty is building and operating commercial bakeries in rural areas to serve rural communities. And it’s working. We currently own and operate three bakeries in Rwanda that serve 20,000+ primary school children daily (our school snack program, the One Bread Project) in addition to other local markets, where we serve thousands of customers daily.
