About The Working Mums Club
Our goal is to create hybrid, community-led workspaces for mothers, particularly those facing high childcare costs and long waiting lists that prevent them from returning to work and achieving financial stability. This idea stems from our personal experiences with childcare in London and conversations with mothers across the UK who share similar struggles. For many mothers, rising childcare costs make it financially unfeasible to work, as the cost of care often outweighs their income. This forces a difficult choice between continuing their careers or staying home to save on childcare expenses. Adding to the financial strain, long waiting lists for childcare facilities exacerbate the issue. Many mothers put their child on nursery waiting lists before they're born, and even if they can afford childcare, the lack of immediate availability often delays their return to work. This impacts their income, career growth, and leads to feelings of isolation as they struggle to balance work and parenting responsibilities. Mothers often find themselves responding to emails during nap time or trying to work while managing children’s needs, which is far from ideal. These challenges contribute to a wider societal issue where mothers are pressured to step back from their careers, limiting their growth and financial independence. Our solution is to offer affordable, flexible childcare alongside coworking spaces where mothers can work for 1-4 hour blocks without the distractions of home. We plan to open our first "Working Mums Club" in Greenwich, London, based on local research that shows significant demand for this kind of service. Our coworking space with childcare will allow mothers to focus on their work while knowing their children are being cared for in a safe, stimulating environment, free from over-reliance on screens. Key features include: - Easily accessible and reasonably priced workspaces - High-quality childcare at subsidised rates - A supportive community
