The Zawinul Foundation for Achievement is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides students with a unique international music exchange program. The Zawinul Foundation for Achievement was inspired by a longtime dream of Joe Zawinul, a world-renowned jazz musician, composer and co-founder of Weather Report, one of the most innovative and influential jazz bands in modern history that continues to inspire musicians in all genres today. Joe had a dream to encourage and cultivate performing arts careers in young, promising musicians. “Music is one of the few forms of communication that enables interpersonal communication and understanding between people without language barriers and intellectual boundaries,” he said when being honored with the renaming of the Zawinul Musikschule in Gumpoldskirchen, Austria. The Zawinul Foundation for Achievement aims to further those passions by creating programs, events and partnerships that reflect Joe's commitment to music education as a life-transforming experience. The Joe Zawinul International Music Program encourages music students to broaden their studies, acquire new skills and familiarize themselves with international music schools. Every year, students from Austria travel to Los Angeles and students from the United States visit Vienna so they can experience each country’s rich musical and artistic cultures. Additionally, the student attend lessons with top instructors, visit state-of-the-art recording facilities and enjoy professional performances. The Zawinul Foundation for Achievement arranges the all-expenses-paid trip, from airfare to housing and meals to entertainment and educational opportunities.
