About theatre KAPOW
theatre KAPOW develops ensemble productions of great dramatic literature to explore the human experience and inspire and challenge both artist and audience. We also place emphasis on the importance of training, and creating a supportive and collaborative atmosphere for playwrights, actors, and designers to explore and develop new work. tKAPOW began in the summer of 2008 and was officially incorporated in the State of New Hampshire in February of 2009. The founding members of tKAPOW came together in a common desire to create great theatre starting with great dramatic literature. By producing works of the highest caliber and of recognized literary value, tKAPOW is a resource for educators on both the presentation and the study of these works. theatre KAPOW produces 3 - 4 mainstage shows each season. The 2018-2019 season includes: Translations by Brian Friel, Shipwrecked: An Entertainment—The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as Told by Himself) by Donald Margulies, and Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson. Hear new or rarely produced plays that relate to special exhibitions at the Currier Museum of Art or objects or artists in the museum's permanent collection. After the reading, stay for a conversation lead by local experts in the fields of fine art, dramatic literature, and politics. Admission to the readings and participation in the discussions is free with museum admission. This season's readings include: On the Ceiling by Nigel Planer, The Bakelite Masterpieces by Kate Cayley and The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek by Athol Fugard theatre KAPOW hosts open trainings in acting, movement, improvisation, voice, speech, object work, suzuki, viewpoints, and more. Company members have trained with Double Edge Theatre Company, La Mama Experimental Theatre Club, the Michael Chekhov Studio, Shakespeare & Company, The Atlantic Acting School and SITI Company, and draw on these techniques and methods for their work. Training is open to everyone 16 and older.
