About This Is H.O.W.

This Is H.O.W. Inc. is a 501c(3) non profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the lives of Trans (transsexual, transgender, and gender variant) persons experiencing crisis situations such as homelessness, substance abuse, familial abuse, and transition related difficulties. Founded in 2006 By Regina Gazelle, TIH has grown consistently over the last four years, and has experienced both good times and difficult ones. The challenges of starting an organization dedicated to Trans lives in Phoenix was merely the first of many hurdles the organization has not only faced, but come out on top of. Developing out Partnerships with leaders in the local community, and performing outreach to the often most neglected of the demographics within the community, This Is HOW has served over 300 trans people in it’s years, and, when it comes to substance abuse, has managed to attain a 60% success rate in overcoming substance abuse and addiction issues. The reason for this phenomenal success is that we focus on the underlying issues that affect the lives of trans people. Issues of safety, issues of confidence, issues of acceptance both self and externally. We create hope and a sense of the future, and we do all of this on an extraordinarily tight budget and with an all volunteer staff. Led now by current Executive Director Antonia D'orsay, TIH has developed leading programs and tools that make TIH the expert organization in Phoenix, Arizona on Trans related issues.
