Thorpe Legal is a specialist legal practice committed to providing quality, commercial and cost-effective legal services to the airport and aviation sectors. David Thorpe is the Director of Thorpe Legal, and is an experienced practitioner who has spent over 14 years working at major Australian airports – including working on significant & complex commercial transactions and aeronautical developments. Over that time, David has had the opportunity to provide thorough, specialised advice to most parts of the airport business, with a particular focus on: • Regulatory – including airport planning & approvals, aviation safety, aviation security, environmental management and airspace protection. • Airline agreements – airline access agreements (conditions of use), including comprehensive & complex arrangements with major airlines. • Construction & engineering – ranging from civil & building works tendering and contracting to assisting with complex projects such as terminal expansions and new runways. • Property/leasing transactions – including general commercial & retail leasing as well as specific “joint venture”-type property transactions. • Infrastructure projects – significant on-airport transport infrastructure projects with State & Commonwealth government agencies, such as the Gateway Upgrade Project. In addition to his legal experience, David spent 12 months in the Airside Operations Department at Brisbane Airport, giving him an invaluable insight into the regulation and management of airside issues – in particular airside safety.
