About Threshold Services

Purpose, Mission and Values of Threshold Services: The purpose of Threshold Services is recovery from mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. Recovery is not the complete absence of symptoms. It is the recovery of a person's life, with a home, meaningful endeavor, and meaningful relationships, a life of one's own choosing. It is a process, in which "hope emerges and lives unfold." The mission of Threshold Services is to help people with mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders to recover by providing treatment, rehabilitation and housing; and by promoting a caring community through advocacy and education. Above all, we value respect for the people we serve. We stand beside the people we serve as allies in their self-directed recovery process and as bearers of hope. In order to be effective allies, we value evidence-based services, and we direct our efforts toward each individual's personal goals. We value a work environment of mutual trust and respect. "It is our job to ask people with psychiatric disabilities what it is they want and need in order to grow and then to provide them with good soil in which a new life can secure its roots and grow. And then, finally, it is our job to wait patiently, to sit with, to watch and wonder, and to witness with reverence the unfolding of another person's life."
